I Replaced the GoPhone
Published July 3rd, 2008 in 3G, AT&T, Go Phone, iPhoneOn Sunday night I was rummaging through some drawers of old stuff, and ran across two cell phones: A Motorola V551 from college, and an LG CU500, which I replaced with my first gen iPhone.
My first thought: “Why did I spend $14.99 on a CRAPPY Motorola GoPhone when I already had these?”
My second thought: “Wow, this LG CU500 has a lot of features….”
In college I replaced my Motorola V551 with a Sony Walkman W600i. What a sweet phone. Just look at this thing:

Unfortunately, it broke. It twisted open, some screws fell out, and it went downhill from there. It had a great camera, an awesome MP3 player and speakers, and was just a cool phone overall.
Imagine my dismay when I find out the W600 has been discontinued and removed from cell phone insurance because of the high amount of returns/damaged phones.
So my option was to either send the phone in (4-6 weeks) for repair, or take a replacement phone from Cingular.
They offered me the LG CU500, I accepted.

So this week, while iPhoneless, I went back to the LG CU500. It has a speaker phone, which I could hardly live without on my GOPhone. But look what else it has:
- 3G Internet
- 1.3MP Camera
- Video recording capabilities
At first I thought….. wait a second, I’m waiting for the iPhone when I have these features and more already?!?!
Then, I logged into the 3G to check Twitter and Gmail. And I was quickly reminded of why the iPhone will trump any regular cell phone experience any day.
User experience.

Pushing the ‘7′ button FOUR times to punch out the letter ‘S’ on the screen? No wonder kids say ridiculous stuff like “omg roflmao g2g cu l8r.” It’s easier and quicker. Plus, the whole cool factor is involved. Who needs proper grammar? Certainly not tweenies and prostitots.
So…. 8 more days without an iPhone. And I can’t wait to get back to that sleek, sexy 3.5″ touch screen.
ttyl.
